Find someone in Texas prison

prisoner

So… your loved one, a friend, or family member are in prison or jail. You are scared and worried and you want to help them. You have come to the right place.

Visit the TDCJ website for information about inmates, visitation, writing to inmates, and everything else. Use the navigation on the top of the site to find your way around. If you are sure they are in the TDCJ system, which stands for Texas Department of Criminal Justice, then You will need the inmates last name, and at least their first initial of their first name. The more information you have the better. You can add their Date of Birth and their race. Some people have a common name, like Joe Smith, and there will be many results, so the more details you have the better. If you are using the Inmate locator tool to find someone, and if the person you are looking for goes by a nickname, use their REAL first name initial. You cannot be listed in TDC by a nickname.

Now, sometimes, you know your loved one has been arrested and is in jail or prison, but you do not know where they are. The TDC Inmate Locator will only tell you if they are in prison. A person can stay a good long while in county jail, so if you do not find them in the TDC, you should try looking in the county jail. Most likely start with the county they live in of course. Larger areas have a lookup tool on their website. But you will need to track that down. You can also usually call a county jail and ask if a person is incarcerated there. Remember, these folks working at the jails are just people, like you and me, and they are usually overworked and underpaid, so put a good attitude on and be polite and patient when you call. Have as much information as you can ready to provide them, and use a clear voice when talking to them.

If you still are not finding them but you are positive they are incarcerated, then you need to figure out if they are incarcerated on Federal charges. In that case, they might be in Texas, but in a Federal penitentiary, and they will not show on the TDC Inmate Locator either. Here is a link to the Federal Inmate Search tool. The difference with the Federal Inmate Search tool is that it shows everyone who has been in the Federal pen, even those that are now released, so take a close look at the details.

If you still need help or have other questions, one great place for all questions about prison, prison life, and everything else having to do with it is the online forum www.prisontalk.com. If you are dealing with a loved one in prison, I highly recommend this site as a place to find support and a lot of information.

Meanwhile, stick around my blog for awhile. Read a couple of my blog posts and leave a comment if you wish. I did my time, I am free now, and life is good. I will answer any questions you have and help if I can. Peace to y’all ~ Texas Magnum

  1. I am looking for Ronnie Zephyn. He was at the Federal facility in Conroe, Tx, but now they are saying he is no longer there. I cannot find him in the TDCJ system, and do not know if he was moved to another facility or what. His mother just passed away and I wanted to let him know, but cannot find him any longer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  2. My husband was sentenced to 1 year state jail felony in November 2016, judge said he will be released early with good behavior. My question is how will his name show up for diligent participation credit if he’s in county jail instead of TDJC? At this point we don’t believe he will be transferred and will just serve his sentence in county jail.

    1. If the judge ordered start jail time and he has not been transferred yet, there will come a time he will be transferred as a requirement to obtain the SID number. Even if it is for only 90-120 days. Stay positive and don’t get depressed when the transfer happens. Just think of it as he will be home soon. Hope this helps.

    1. Hey, there is no one in the TDC system by the name Kristie Honeycutt if that is who you mean. If she was in county and was sent to TDC now, it will take a few days for her to show up in the system. If her name is something more than Kristie, like Kristine or something you need to use the full name when you search. You can go to https://offender.tdcj.texas.gov/OffenderSearch/index.jsp to search. Good luck ~ Magnum

      1. Texas Magnum!! Question if you can answer.. My boyfriend has been in since 2-15-16 wit a 3year sentence he was denied of course in October so do you know or think he’ll mke parole next year this time???

  3. How’s it going magnum well my name is Briana I find myself here again seeking some advise on my Husband who is currently serving a 3 year sentence. This is his fourth parole review, the other 3 obviously denied but his behavior isn’t an issue nor aggravated. His prd changed to his full sentence date but he is coming up for parole 3/17 but is currently in review process now. I guess my question to you is doors he have a better chance coming home this last go around or possibly prd is what I look at

    1. Hey Briana. I am sorry to hear about your husband’s stint in TDC. It’s really not possible to say what his chances are, but it seems that it’s likely the chances get better with each time. I will be hoping you get good news this time around. Hang in there.

      1. Thank you Magunum happy holidays to you as well and to everyone who is not able to make it home with there families this year you all are thought of as well hang in there (peace and love)

  4. I have a question my fiance was pick up friend to be transferred to tdcj. I keep looking him up on the web site but his name isn’t on there. I was wondering how long does it take for them to show up on the site or could I just call where he said the city he was going to be. And them tell me. I have been waiting 4 days now to know something on the tdcj web site and I’m not getting anything.

    1. Hey Tiffany, I am sure by now you have located your fiance. It does take a couple days usually for them to show up. I hope by now you’ve been able to write to him and hear back from him. Hang in there and peace ~ Magnum

  5. My boyfriend was in the sergovia unit and the projected release date was in November… But when I went to look him up he didn’t show on the system can you let me know if he was released or moved… His name is Jermain Collins and his date of birth is 2\9\82 and his id was 2000024…any info would help greatly

    1. Hey LaRica, I am not sure. I see one JermainE Collins with an E on the end of Jermain and a different DOB. I guess that is not your guy. Maybe he got released? The only other thing I can think of is if he had a bench warrant from another county and they sent him there. I am sorry I don’t have much information for you on this one. Good luck ~ Magnum

    1. Hey Jimmy if you visit the TDC website at http://www.tdcj.state.tx.us/ then go to the Public Resources tab and under there is inmate lookup. You need her full, real name and her date of birth, and it will give you her TDC number and where she is at, and all that information, as well as the projected release date, which tends to be a good guideline for how long she will do. Good luck to you and her. Peace ~ Magnum

      1. the tdj website no longer allows inmate look up without your already having their Inmate ID #.
How do we find this number?

        1. Hey tmugler, you do not need their number to search. It’s a field and you can enter it if you have it but all you need is a first and last name. The first name has to be their real first name, not initials or nickname. Give it a try. If the person has a really common name it helps to narrow it down to enter their race and any other details that are on the form that you know. Hope this helps. Peace ~ Magnum
